PERFORMANCE COACHING/COUNSELING FOR SPORTS

Peak athletic performance unleashed

Whether you are a baseball player who isn’t hitting or pitching the way you used to, a golfer with the yips, an equestrian with anxiety, or a skater recovering from an injury, we can get to the bottom of why you are having a problem and move you to peak performance.

Any athlete who seeks to improve consistency and tweak performance level, or to recover what you once had, can benefit from this short-term approach.

Research-based approach used by professional athletes and Olympians

Catbird Coaching’s peak performance method is tailored for athletes seeking a unique, research-based approach to overcome obstacles and reclaim their peak performance.

This is not your average mindset work or sports psychology.

It's a short-term powerhouse approach delving deep into the roots of performance issues, featuring tools like HeartMath, the EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) performance protocol, and Brainspotting performance expansion. These are evidence-based techniques that, when combined in this approach, can dramatically improve performance.

Why athletes choose peak performance coaching —some examples

Post-Injury Comeback

A star athlete returning to the arena after a serious injury—The physical healing is one thing, but the mind-body comeback is just as crucial. The peak performance protocol aids in overcoming the mental hurdles and mind-body disconnect that can linger after the injury has healed.

Performance Plateau

A seasoned athlete experiences a performance plateau, unable to reach the same heights as before or get to a new level—performance coaching/counseling identifies and addresses the deep psychological blocks hindering progress, breaking through plateaus with precision.

The Yips

Golfers struggle with the yips, suddenly unable to make simple putts—It's not just a physical hiccup; it's a mind-body challenge. This peak performance protocol uses targeted techniques to break you free from the yips' grip.

Burnout Breakdown

An athlete feels the burnout blues, losing the passion that once fueled their drive—Performance coaching/counseling goes beyond surface-level solutions, reigniting the flame and restoring the joy of competition through psychological exploration and discovery, or helping an athlete decide when to stop competing and pursue other interests.

New Competition Anxiety

A seasoned competitive ice skater faces unexpected anxiety about an upcoming event—It's not about lacking skills (everything goes well in practice sessions); it's about navigating the mind-body connection. Performance coaching equips athletes with tools to manage anxiety and perform at their best when it matters most.

The peak performance process explained

In a nutshell, this is the performance expansion approach we will use to get you to the peak level you desire.

  1. Understand the problem. This includes my talking with you extensively to get a detailed history of the performance issue and how it has manifested in the past and present. I may want to talk with other members of your team—coaches, psychologists, etc.—to get all perspectives and insights. Sometimes on-site observation and consultation is required in order to get the full picture of what is happening.

  2. Learn and practice Heartmath™ techniques to calm the nervous system and create coherence between brain, heart, and body. I will teach you these techniques, and then you will practice them daily until you feel you have mastered them.

  3. Use the EMDR Performance Protocol and Brainspotting to get to the essential cause of the performance problem and deactivate whatever is interfering with your performance. Sometimes we will supplement EMDR with Brainspotting, another technique that can get to the heart of the matter.

  4. Follow up to insure that you can maintain coherence consistently and are performing at the level you desire continually.
